Wednesday

home is wherever i'm with you.

and in the spirit of being home, this has been my favourite song to listen to while driving. however in this version they skip over my favourite part of this song... this exchange!

him: Jade?

her: Alexander?

him: do you remember that day you fell out of my window?

her: i sure do, you came jumping out after me.

him: well, you fell on the concrete and nearly broke your ass and you were bleeding all over the place and i rushed you off to the hospital. do
you remember that?

her: yes, i do.

him: well, there’s something I never told you about that night.

her: what didn’t you tell me?

him: while you were sitting in the backseat smoking a cigarette you thought was going to be your last, i was falling deep, deeply in love with you and I never told you ‘til just now.

her: now I know!

adventures of a freewheeling ginger.

hi hi hi!

sorry, been on VACA. no biggie. here's my Spring 2011 collection! actually i ended up doing really well in my portfolio class. i worked super hard on fixing up all of my mistakes, and printing it out all fancy-like, and glueing each page back to back. errgggg gluing can be grueling! anywho, i've set up an interview for the day i get back to NY so i'm actually sort of excited to show it off! i won't say yet who i'm interviewing with but let's just say it's my first choice for an internship and my fingers are like crossed all over eachother like a million times (you think that's not possible, but i'm actually quite serious. yeah i'm double jointed in my hands, big whoop).

so remember when i was saying how obsessed i was with the original Pippi Longstocking? so here's what happened with
that.

(actually this is only half of the designs, but you get the idea.)

Sunday

up in the mornin' and out to school, the teacher is teachin' the golden rule.

so this week is my last week of school for this semester and i'm going out of my minnnddd... pining for Friday!!

currently studying for my Survey of American Music final... yes, i know. things could be worse. i could be going to real school and be doing real studying and writing real final papers. but really i have two sweaters due this week, 2 US music papers due, a French final, and a massive design project due. oh, wait. brb while i hang myself.

here's a song i'll need to know!

Thursday

and they're trying to drive that escalator into the ground.

beautiful new Charlotte Gainsbourg ft. Beck song, directed by Keith Schofiel. i honestly think i'm more into the video then the song itself. not only because i believe that Charlotte Gainsbourg is the most captivating/stunning/mesmerizing human being alive (and i've thought this ever since i saw Science of Sleep), but this video has so many layers -- so many details!

(honestly though, she's the daughter of Jane Birkin... so is this any surprise?)

Tuesday

i am now, and will always remain... a duckman.

last Thursday was the Charlotte Ronson sample sale. i went to her sale in the summer and got those awesome platforms i wore in the Pick a Colour challenge for only $30, so i was eager to see what was to offer from Fall/Holiday. peeps these gems i snagged for $40!!

(yeah, well so what if i don't get a lot of wear out of them? aka they're pretty darn high and oh maybe just a tad too small...)

(and then my friend, Megadeth, came in wearing these. amazing, no? they looked totally awkward on my feet so i sold them to her a couple of years ago. she totes rocks them).

(then i couldn't help but wonder if her shoes and my new special edition Jeffrey Campell shoes had a baby, they'd pretty much equal the shoes of the Duckman, no?)

(damn right!)

Sunday

the girl who loved wild horses.

some bits of my Fall 2010 collection. i was inspired by the children's book, The Girl Who Loved Wild Horses.

(the first page of the book).

(some pages from my journal... i don't remember my sources!)

(my mood page).

(some of my designs.)

Thursday

could this be my latest obsession since Here We Go Magic?

greetings, Suckers!! otherwise known as, my favourite new BK band! what kind of sucks is that they played at CMJ with the Antlers and i had really wanted to check out that show. buttt guess what? looks like their album release party is a week from today at the Knitting Factory. see yah there!

Suckers: Easy Chairs. Directed by Chubbard from Chubbard on Vimeo.

(incredible video. notice not only the wings but the horses on the dude's armor shit at about 1:25).

here's another tune from their ep... have a got you eager for more??
it gets your body movin' - suckers.

and apparently this gem is a newbie!
save your love for me - suckers.

Wednesday

doo-doo-doo-doo, feelin' groovy!

it's no secret... i love everything kitsch, everything groovy, and everything rainbow. if i could furnish my apartment solely with goods from a Better Homes and Gardens book (circa 1970), i would live a happier, more fulfilled life. if money and decade were of no issue, my apartment would resemble:

(i WISH i knew where i found this... probably ffffound.com)

(wholly conversation pits!! i want one!! these images mostly found at: http://blog.ounodesign.com/)

(Spud and Rodney completely approve of my decorating).

Tuesday

but your lows will have their complement of highs.

need i explain why Yeasayer is my favourite band? probably not if you've heard All Hour Cymbals, or have ever seen them live. WHICH i had the pleasure of experiencing a year ago... and in January, i am delighted to say, i will get to see them once again. i. am. ecstatic. oh! oh! and did i mention that i just found out that they live one street over from me?! i knew they lived in Brooklyn, but we're neighbours!! WE'RE PRACTICALLY BLOOD RELATIVES!

(enjoy. this is their new single).

Sunday

i am a Thing-Finder, and when you're a Thing-Finder, you don't have a minute to spare.

well Pippi, i can certainly relate to that!

for my Spring 2010 collection i chose a sort of Pippi-esq theme. sure, it sounds a little hokey. but take a minute and get to know Pippi because she's freaking awesome as can be. this whole Pippi craze started when i was in the Netherlands this summer and found several postcards from the movie that provided the most wonderful colour story. then while looking after these Swedish kids i babysit, i thought it was a sure sign when the 4-yr-old girl was watching Pippi Langstrumpf the movie. though completely in Swedish, it's pretty clear that Pippi's a unique breed... plus, being set in the early 70s in Sweden, there is so much to be inspired by!

(okay, yeah... she might be a little creepy).

Saturday

courage my love, it makes me bolder.

for the past few weeks i've just barely been able to control my excitement because i've had two insanely amazing concerts to look forward to, both at Music Hall of Williamsburg. last Sunday, the 22nd, I had the pleasure of seeing Scotland's Camera Obscura live in all their glory. wow. amazzzing show. especially after they were basically the soundtrack to my summer. not-to-mention, Tracyanne Campbell's words on heartbreak had me going, "yeah! completely! you know how a feeeeel!!" on various accounts these past few months. concert number two deserves a separate post... so that will come in time.

(ooh you make me go oooooh with the things that you do...)

(and i'll post more from the show on my Vimeo.)

creative potters.

so i often find myself browsing etsy for really awesome stuff which there tends to be a plethora of. in my 'favourites basket' there are pages of vintage and handmade things that are totally rad. i finally convinced myself to purchase something just for the excitement of unwrapping a package delivered to my doorstep, so i transferred some money into my Paypal account. only to wait a few days for the money to process and find out that this wonderful piece i had my eye on had sold! so i sent a message to the creator and sure enough, she made one just for me! check it out:

(amazing, no?)

i thought the cacti were perfect... low maintenance and super dangerous looking. Clayflower22 has a lot of awesome ones, so i suggest checking out her store. but it also got me thinking that if i had the space, and the patience to care for plants, it would look totally awesome to have them in some kischy-looking mugs! (like my carebears mug which now serves the purpose of pen-holder). like imagine some of these with some awesome snap dragons or succulents crawling out! i guess for a lot of them you'd have to somehow drill holes for drainage.

clearly i have a fascination with things emerging from heads.

Thursday

pick a colour, any colour.

... and we're back! haha we'll see how long this lasts. who knows, maybe this will be the post that pushes me back into blogging! so here's the scoop... as usual, i'm doing my leisurely pre-homework procrastination, and decided to check out what miss Susie was up to on Style Bubble. that's when i read about her 10-Colour-Challenge. seemed like the perfect tool for avoiding my piles of work for at least another half hour, so i headed to my closet to see what i could come up with. anyone that knows me is fully aware that i am NOT afraid of colour: both in my wardrobe and my designs. however, pulling out solid coloured pieces? no prints or patterns? herein lies the true challenge.

here's what i came up with! (thanks to Joy for her
awesome camera and photography skillz).

(fyi, clearly this is not my room because needless to say... it was covered in clothes post-creation of this outfit).

(silk blouse - vintage Prada, sweater - thrifted in Vancouver, yellow shorts - thrifted in Montreal, brand: Sex Magick (yup), orange tights, brick red over-the-knee socks - American Apparel, shoes - Charlotte Ronson, coat - thrifted at the Salvation Army, purple suede purse - thrifted at the Garage Flea Market in Chelsea).
