Wednesday

there's something living in these lies.

(jan. 4. thrifted classic norwegian fairisle sweater, Dale of Norway, and Free People top).

(with cream faux double breasted coat... or WAS double breasted... garage sale find).

(jan. 5. cable tree bamboo sweater made by yours truly, black and white anthropologie dress).

you may say that i'm a dreamer. but i'm not the only one.

a new batch of handmade dreamcatchers. i'd say i have enough now to start selling them. this all white one is actually for a friend of mine from when i interned at Opening Ceremony. her name is Kristen Oshiro and she makes this amazing jewelry and when she heard i made dreamcatchers, she suggested we do a little trade. i was so into the idea and finally we started working on our respective gifts. i am SO excited to see what she pulls together, she's using a unicorn horn pendant and i couldn't be more excited!! check out her blog, Cult of Secrets. i just love the idea of artists trading things just for the sake of trading art, don't you? no money involved, just an appreciation for each other's craft.

i couldn't be more pumped for this weekend. yes, it will be bittersweet as it is my last weekend in brooklyn, but at least i'll be leaving with a bang. friday i'm having a going away house party at my apartment, then saturday morning i'll do some packing, then in the evening i'm getting my second tattoo by the amazing Michelle at Saved Tattoo, then at night i'll be at yet another South Slope Open House where i'll actually have my dreamcatchers on display over the music area. it's going to look SO cool with little twinkle lights and the works!

(something a little different i'm trying out. i quite like it actually! i might keep this one, hang it over my bed in my new apartment).

Thursday

through the crystal like a clear water fountain.

my favourite dreamcatcher to date. it was inspired by my friend Hayley and her senior collection at Parsons titled "Future Ice World." i'm going to start making lots of them and then hopefully start selling them! how much would you pay for this, out of curiosity? be fair, a lot of time and few pennies went into this!

Wednesday

i should like to change into a sunflower most of all. they're so tall and simple.

(Fall 2011 Harold & Maude inspiration).

(Maude inspiration).

(Harold inspiration).

(colours/yarns).

Maude: i should like to change into a sunflower most of all. they're so tall and simple. what flower would you like to be?

Harold: i don't know. one of these, maybe.

Maude: why do you say that?

Harold: because they're all alike.

Maude: oooh, but they're not. look. see, some are smaller, some are fatter, some grow to the left, some to the right, some even have lost some petals. all kinds of observable differences. you see, Harold, i feel that much of the world's sorrow comes from people who are this,
[she points to a daisy]...
Maude: yet allow themselves be treated as that...
[she gestures to a field of daisies]

[cut to a shot of a field of gravestones in a military cemetery]

Tuesday

the future of fashion(s).

i might be a little MIA for the next week or two! the reason being... my first senior collection garment has to be 95% done by Wednesday of next week! and my 2nd (Cotton Inc) garment has to be 75% done. wooopie! i have a lot left to do... but on that note! another reason i might not be spending as much time on my personal blog is that i've been made a contributor for the newly established FIT BFA Fashion Show blog!! it's been really fun thus far, i've pretty much just been updating it whenever i have made some notable progress on my garments.

now this is exciting on it's own, but the best part is that one of my girls, Krickie (who also has a kickass blog,
freakybananakins), has been interning at Refinery29, and told them about our site! Krickie was granted permission to write a post about us, and from there we've gotten even more press! a day or two later, NBC New York wrote about us, and yesterday, the Sundance Channel's Full Frontal Fashion, did another blurb!

extra! extra! read all about it!

Saturday

the dark side of the rainbow.

a while back i posted about my Fall 2011 collection, The Girl Who Loved Wild Horses, with a few pics from my sketchbook etc. this semester is our first without an actual art and design class, but we're using our already created portfolio to develop an "E-portfolio". here are a couple of pieces i've worked on. the video below is actually embedded into the image above it, but i can't for the life of me figure out how to actually post that "interactive file" on the blog. ehhh i'll figure it out eventually. you can see the video bigger here: the girl who loved wild horses slideshow.

this here (below) is another assignment we had. sort of a "leave behind" meant to kind of give you a taste of my style and skillz. the original artwork and designs were actually done a year ago in my Junior year, but i still really like the project! i think it was like during the 80s that someone realized that when you play the film of the Wizard of Oz muted, and then listen to the Dark Side of the Moon record at the same time, the visuals of the movie combined with the music on the record correspond in this crazy seemingly intentional fashion. so despite the fact that i have never actually done this (i know, i know, Holden Caufield! i am a phony!), that whole concept was my inspiration behind this collection. and they call it Dark Side of the Rainbow (hence the name of my collection), and other names for it are the Dark Side of Oz and The Wizard of Floyd (a personal fave).

Wednesday

adventures of a freewheeling ginger.

hi hi hi!

sorry, been on VACA. no biggie. here's my Spring 2011 collection! actually i ended up doing really well in my portfolio class. i worked super hard on fixing up all of my mistakes, and printing it out all fancy-like, and glueing each page back to back. errgggg gluing can be grueling! anywho, i've set up an interview for the day i get back to NY so i'm actually sort of excited to show it off! i won't say yet who i'm interviewing with but let's just say it's my first choice for an internship and my fingers are like crossed all over eachother like a million times (you think that's not possible, but i'm actually quite serious. yeah i'm double jointed in my hands, big whoop).

so remember when i was saying how obsessed i was with the original Pippi Longstocking? so here's what happened with
that.

(actually this is only half of the designs, but you get the idea.)

Sunday

the girl who loved wild horses.

some bits of my Fall 2010 collection. i was inspired by the children's book, The Girl Who Loved Wild Horses.

(the first page of the book).

(some pages from my journal... i don't remember my sources!)

(my mood page).

(some of my designs.)
